TPSD’s new National Board Certified Teachers

By ginnymiller

I’ll have a story about this on next week’s Education page, but here’s a news release sent by Kay Bishop of the Tupelo Public School District. (FYI, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards isn’t planning to release the state list until Dec. 9.)

From TPSD:

The Tupelo Public School District congratulates 15 of our dedicated educators for earning National Board Certification this year. Additionally, we congratulate the two teachers who received their recertification.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards works to strengthen the teaching profession and to improve student learning in America’s schools through the National Board Certification process. Each National Board Certified Teacher completes a one-year process that includes submitting a comprehensive portfolio and completing a rigorous test. National Board Certification is widely considered to be the highest achievement in teaching excellence.

The following are TPSD’s National Board Certified Teachers for this year:
Sharronda Evans, Lawhon Elementary School 2nd grade teacher
Kathy Bondurant, Lawhon Elementary School kindergarten teacher
Tina Fitts, Lawndale Elementary School 6th grade teacher
Nikeshia Leatherwood, Milam Elementary School 5th grade teacher
Dana McGinister, Milam Elementary School 4th grade teacher
Amy Kingsley, Parkway Elementary School kindergarten teacher
Linda Grimmett, Parkway Elementary School kindergarten teacher
April West, Parkway Elementary School 3rd grade teacher

Holly Bailey, Tupelo Middle School science teacher
Janet Armour, Tupelo High School media specialist
Dr. Linda Buchanan, Church Street Elementary – (RECERTIFICATION)
Ruth Baker, Tupelo Middle School – (RECERTIFICATION)

The Tupelo Public School District currently has 115 National Board Certified Teachers working with students. This means that 19% of all TPSD licensed teachers presently hold National Board Certification. TPSD has had 166 National Board Certified Teachers since the district began participating in the national certification process.

The Tupelo Public School District is very proud of these accomplishments by our teachers and very grateful for their continuing efforts to serve our students and to prepare themselves to be the best teachers that they can be!!!
